Matthew Garrigan and Elizabeth Ann Smith

Matthew Garrigan was born around 1834 in Smithstown, County Mead, Ireland to Owen and Ann Garrigan. He married Elizabeth Ann Smith on 1 Mar 1859 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Newark, New Jersey. Elizabeth was born around on 25 Feb 1838 in Newark, New Jersey to Matthew Smith and Bridget Carey.

They had at least 11 children:

1. Mary Garrigan (9 Oct 1860-) who married Julius Totams on 4 May 1885 in Newark, New Jersey.

2. Eugene F Garrigan (13 May 1862-after 1889) who married Julia Seelmann on 10 Apr 1883 in Newark, New Jersey and had at least three children (Anna Garrigan, Mariam Garrigan, and Crescentia Juliana Garrigan).

3. Anna Garrigan (30 Jul 1864-).

4. Matthew James Garrigan (9 Apr 1866-) who married Mary Anita Leonard on 23 Sept 1891 in Newark, New Jersey.

5. Elizabeth Garrigan (1 Feb 1868-).

6.William T Garrigan (16 Mar 1870-9 Jul 1913) who married Eleanor Johnson/Johnston on 27 Oct 1894 in Newark, New Jersey and had at least three children (Clara Garrigan, Mary C Garrigan, and Edward Garrigan).

7. Thomas Garrigan (26 Mar 1870-).

8. Grace Agnes Garrigan (1 May 1872- 14 Feb 1912).

9. Theresa Garrigan (4 Apr 1874-).

10. Sarah E Garrigan (21 Apr 1875-).

11. Edward Joseph Garrigan (20 Oct 1877-).

1860 Census: See parents records, but Matthew and Elizabeth are living with Elizabeth’s parents.

1870 Census: Cannot find them.

1880 Census: Matthew Garrigan is 45 and Elizabeth is 40. Mary Garrigan is 18, Eugene Garrigan is 16, Matthew Garrigan is 14, Lilly Garrigan is 12, William Garrigan is 10, Grace Garrigan is 6, Theresa Garrigan is 4, Sarah Garrigan is 3 and Edward Garrigan is 1.

Eugene F. Garrigan and Julia Seelmann and Philip Bopp

Eugene F. Garrigan was born on 13 May 1862 in Newark, NJ. He was the son of Matthew Garrigan and Elizabeth Smith. He married Julia Seelmann on 10 April 1883. Julia Seelmann was born on 01 Jan 1861 in Newark, NJ. She was the daughter of Benedict Seelmann and Julia Korn. Julia then married Philip Bopp on 12 Jan 1898. He was born abt 1868. Julia died in July 1947.

1. Philip Bopp (04 Sep 1900-Nov 1970)

2. Frank Bopp (24 Dec 1903-Feb 1978)

William Huber and Annie Garrigan

William Huber was born on 6 March 1884 in Newark, NJ. He was the son of William ‘Balthazar’ Huber and Helena Fredericka Halter.  He married Annie Garrigan on 23 August 1905. Annie was born on 30 June 1883 in Newark, NJ and was the daughter of Julia Seelmann and Eugene Garrigan. William was employed by the Hillside Supply Co. and by Mundet Cork Co. which made bottle caps. William was a member of the Hillside Lodge of Elks and the Hillside Republican Club. He died on 3 November 1969 and Annie died on 19 May 1959. They are buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Orange, NJ.

1910- William is 26 and Annie is also 26. They have been married 4 years. He was a shoe lash maker. The family was living at 29 Sprinkle Street, Newark, NJ. They had two children, William Huber III (who is 3) and Edwin Huber who is 8 months.

1920- William and Annie are both 35. William is listed as being a shoe lash turner. Their children are William Huber Jr. (who is 13), Living, Julia Huber (who is 4) and a boarder Elizabeth Reich (who is 1).

1930- They are living next door to William’s mother and sister’s family (Rose and Roscoe Mullican). William is 46 and Annie is 45.  Children living with them are Living, Julia Huber (who is 14), and Living.
