George Gorham and Hannah Banks

George Gorham was born on the 29th of January 1697 in Barnstable, Massachusetts.  He was the son of Shubael Gorham and Puella Hussey. He married Hannah Banks on the 20th of July 1726 in New Rochelle, New York by Rev. Steven Stupa of the Church of England. She was born on the 27th of October 1704 in Greenwich, Connecticut. Her parents were Joseph Banks and Hannah Purdy. George was a merchant and sailor. He also owned grist mills. His sloop Hannah was licensed to sail between New London, Connecticut; London, England; Boston, Massachusetts; and the West Indies. He was a town official in Darien and Stamford. George Gorham died on May 5th 1772 in Stamford, Connecticut. Hannah died on Dec 17th 1789 in Stamford, Connecticut.

They had at least thirteen children:

1. Shubael Gorham (11 Apr 1727-1771) who married Mary Selleck in Aug 1748 and had ten children (John Gorham, George Gorham, Mary Gorham, Shubael Gorham, Nathaniel Gorham, Samuel Gorham, Hannah Gorham, Deborah Gorham and Anthony Gorham).

2. Hannah Gorham (19 Feb 1729-17 Aug 1807) who married Thomas Smith and had at least two children (Samuel Smith and Anne Smith).

3. Puella Gorham (16 Nov 1730-28 May 1772) who married Gershom Selleck and had at least three children (Fredrick Selleck, Anna Selleck and Charlotte Selleck).

4. Abigail Gorham (6 Feb 1732-19 May 1796) who married Josiah Scofield and had at least 13 children (Joshua Scofield, Gershom Scofield, Lydia Scofield, Sarah Scofield, Thomas Scofield, Josiah Scofield, Ezra Scofield, Abigail Scofield, Hannah Scofield, Phebe Scofield, Joshua Scofield, Ruth Scofield, Jesse Scofield).

5. Mary Gorham (17 Oct 1733-)

6. Phebe Gorham (26 May 1735-28 Aug 1807) who married Samuel Seward and had at least one child (Samuel Seward).

7. Daniel Gorham (17 May 1737-28 Jan 1820) who married Abagail Waterbury and had at least three children (John Gorham, Daniel Gorham and Hannah Gorham). He then married Jane Bates and had at least nine more children (Samuel Gorham, Polly Gorham, Daniel Gorham, Joseph Gorham, George Gorham, Charlotte Gorham, Alfred Gorham, Henry Gorham and Phebe Gorham).

8. Annie Gorham (8 May 1738-)

9. Jonathan Gorham (25 Jan 1740-8 May 1824) who married Mary Walters and had at least six children (Jonathan Gorham, Phebe Gorham, William Gorham, Lydia Gorham, Elizabeth Gorham and Daniel Gorham).

10. Sarah Gorham (4 Aug 1742-17 Aug 1807) who married Stephen Hanford and then married Eliphalet Seely.

11. George Gorham (4 Sept 1744- 8 May 1838) who married Sarah Stephens and had at least 8 children (Apame Gorham, Hannah Gorham, Frederick Gorham, John Gorham, Nabby Gorham, Stephen Gorham, Charity Gorham, and George Gorham).

12. Joseph Gorham (5 Feb 1746-4 Feb 1832).

13. Deborah Gorham (23 May 1748-).

Thomas Smith and Hannah Gorham

Thomas Smith was born around 1720. He married Hannah Gorham on 14 Dec 1754 in Stamford, Connecticut by Rev. Whitmore. Hannah Gorham was the daughter of George Gorham and Hannah Banks. She was born on 19 Feb 1728 in Rye, New York. Thomas Smith died on 28 Mar 1772 and Hannah died on 17 Aug 1807 in Rye, New York.

They had at least two children:

1. Samuel Smith (2 Aug 1755-1818) who married Margaret Litcholt and had at least seven children (Thomas Smith, Mary Smith, Gorham Smith, Garrett Smith, Abraham Smith, Lewis Smith and Edward Smith).

2. Anne Smith (Aug 1762-21 Nov 1815) who married Tyler White Raymond and had at least five children (Hannah Raymond, George Raymond, Charles Raymond, Thomas Fairweather Raymond, Joseph Gorham Raymond).
