Samuel Smith and Margaret Litcholt

Samuel Smith was born in Stamford, Connecticut (or Warwick, NY) on 2 Aug 1755. His parents were Thomas Smith and Hannah Gorham. He married Margaret Litcholt on 14 March 1801. He died in 1818 in Warwick, NY. Margaret Litcholt may have been born in 1785 and died in 1850. Samuel Smith served as a private in the Orange County Militia during the Revolution, in Hay’s regiment. From Fernow in the Revolution page 476. Haverstraw Precint Regt. (now Rockland Co.) is where he was located. He is also a descendant of John Howland of the Mayflower through his mother Hannah Gorham. Samuel and his family are listed in John Howland of the Mayflower, Vol I by Elizabeth Pearson White on page 563.

They had at least seven children all born in Warwick, NY:

1. Thomas Smith (21 Jan 1802-1870′s) married Jane McElroy and had seven children (Cornelius Smith, Jonas Smith, Samuel Smith, William Smith, Margaret A Smith, Ellen Smith, and Caroline Smith).

2. Mary Smith (15 May 1804-?)

3. Gorham Smith (3 Oct 1806-17 Dec 1892) married Magdaline Ackerson and had at least two children (Jamima Smith and John Hyatt Smith).

4. Garrett Smith (26 Aug 1808-?)

5. Abraham Smith (24 Jul 1811-?) married Hetty Hawkins and had at least one child (James E Smith).

6. Lewis Smith (28 Nov 1816-?)

7. Edward Smith (17 Oct 1818-?)
This a Daughter of the American Revolution application made by my great-grandmother Antoinette Furman Barclay, and shows her lineage.
