James Arrington Goodrich and Mary Spencer

James Arrington Goodrich was born in 1800 in Belfield, Greensville, Virginia to Washington Goodrich and Frances Beverly Batte. He married Mary Elizabeth Spencer on 7 Dec 1824 in Virginia. She was born in 1803 in Belfield, Greensville, Virginia to Robert R Spencer and Mary Malbry. She died in Belfield in Aug 1850. James Arrington Goodrich died most likely in 1880 in Greensville, Virginia.

They had at least four children:

1. Thomas Washington Goodrich (25 Nov 1825-8 Feb 1898) who married Mary Elizabeth Blick and had at least eight children (Emmett Spencer Goodrich, Ella A Goodrich, Josie T Goodrich, Willie Anna Goodrich, Jams Hiram Goodrich, Margaret Arrington Goodrich, Mary Timothy Goodrich, Thomas Winston Goodrich).

2. Mary Ann Elizabeth Goodrich (28 Feb 1829-15 Oct 1895) who married John Haskins and had at least five children (Mary Susan Elizabeth Haskins, Indianna Wilkins Haskins, Benjamin Haskins, John Haskins, and Rosa Spencer Haskins).

3. James Embra Goodrich (1832-26 Mar 1888) who married Ann Wilkins Parham and had at least 8 children (Thruston Goodrich, Ann C Goodrich, Unnamed Goodrich, Bettie Goodrich, James Embra Goodrich, Joseph E Goodrich, Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ Thomas Goodrich and Marvin Dibrelli Goodrich).

4. Frances Goodrich.

Census Records:

1830: 1 White male under 5, 1 white male over 20 and under 30,1 white male over 30 under 40, 1 white female under 5, and 1 white female over 20 and under 30. He also had 15 slaves. Apparently at this time he was a lawyer.

1840: 1 white male between age 5-10, 1 white male between 10-15, 1 white male between 40-50, 1 white female between 10-15, and 1 white female between 30-40. He had 1 male slave under age 10, 1 male slave between 24-36, and 2 female slaves between 1o-24.

1850: James Arrington Goodrich is 50 and a farmer, Mary Goodrich is 47, Thomas Washington Goodrich is 25 and a farmer, and James Embra Goodrich is 18 and a student.
