James Embra Goodrich and Ann Wilkins Parham

James Embra Goodrich was born around 1832 in Greensville, Virginia to James Arrington Goodrich and Mary Elizabeth Spencer. He married Ann Wilkins Parham on the 20th of April 1864. She was born on the 7th of December 1843 to Lewis E Branch Parham and Catherine Mason Harwell in Greensville, Virginia. James was a sergeant in the Confederate Army. He died on the 26th of March 1888 in Brunswick, Virginia. Ann died the 29th of November 1931 in Petersburg, Virginia.

They had at least seven children:

1. Thurston Goodrich (1866-16 Dec 1912) who married Virginia Effie Short on 5 Apr 1893 and had at least two children (Virginia Goodrich and Ethel Goodrich).

2. Ann C Goodrich (1868-) who married John Littleton Hardaway on 15 Aug 1888 and had three children.

3. Unnamed Goodrich (3 Apr 1871-1871).

4. Bettie Goodrich (1873-3 Sept 1960) who married John Gregory Harrison in 1899 and had at least five children (Randolph Alexander Harrison, John G Harrison, James Embra Harrison, Jane E Harrison, and Wilkins Harrison).

5. James Embra Goodrich (14 Aug 1878-1 Aug 1916)

6. Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ Thomas Goodrich (28 Dec 1879-16 Jul 1940) who married Albert Sydney Harrison on 22 Sept 1905 and had at least one child (Albertis Sidney Harrison).

7. Marvin Dibrell Goodrich (11 Apr 1886-8 Dec 1957) who married Ruth W Goodrich  and had at least on child (Marvin D Goodrich).

1860: James E Goodrich is 25 and listed as a gentleman. He has a personal estate of 5,000. He is living with Daniel W Spencer who is 49 and a farmer. His real estate is worth  15,000 and his personal estate is worth 28,000. Mary Spencer is 89. Martha Spencer is 27 and has a personal estate of 11,000. Robert M Spencer is 21 and a physician. He also has a personal estate of 11,000. They are living in Brunswick County, Virginia.

1870: James Embra Goodrich is 37 and a farmer. His real estate is worth 5,500 and his personal estate is worth 377. His wife Ann W Goodrich is 24 and keeps house. His father James A Goodrich is 70. Thurston Goodrich is 4 and Ann C Goodrich is 2. They are living in Greensville County, Virginia.

1880: James Embra Goodrich is 48 and a farmer. Ann W Goodrich is 34. Thurston Goodrich is 14, Annie C Goodrich is 12, Bettie Goodrich is 7, James Embra Goodrich is 5, and Lizzie W Goodrich is 3. Also living with them is James Good an 18 year old black domestic servant. They are living in Brunswick County, Virginia.

1900: Ann W Goodrich is 56 and widowed. She stated that she had 8 children, but only 5 are living at this time. She was married when she was 24. Her son James E Goodrich is 22 and living with her. He is a clerk. Daughter Lizzie Goodrich is also living with her. She is 18. Margaret D Goodrich is 14 and at school.They are renting a house on 11 Washington Street in Petersburg, Virginia.

1910: Ann W Goodrich is 64. She stated that she only had 7 children and 4 are living. Her sons James E Goodrich and Marvin Dibrell Goodrich are living with her. They are 31 and 24. Also living with them are lodgers Lyn Harrison, Alice Jones and Anne W Jones. She also has two servants living with her Bettie Smith and Sara Stewart.

1920: Ann W Goodrich is 65 and a roomer in the household of Thomas and Lillian Cunningham. Also living in this household is Thomas and Lillian’s child William and another roomer Randolph Harrison.

1930: Ann W Goodrich is 86 and a lodger at Oliver White’s household. Also living with him is wife Cassie, son Elvie, daughter Laravella, and son William.
